Success ballast for GTE now in play

The new success weight regulations for the GTE class come into play for the first time this weekend at Monza.

The success ballast is calculated in three stages, on three tables (available below).

Table A is the result from the previous race, with 15kg for the winning car, 10kg for second place and 5kg for third.

Table B is the result from the race preceding the previous event with the same ballast of 15kg, 10kg and 5kg.

Table C is the current championship positions, with 15kg for the championship leaders, 10kg for the second placed car in the championship and 5kg for third.

The success ballast for Monza is calculated by adding the three tables together.

The Luzich Racing Ferrari, which won the 4 Hours of Le Castellet on the team’s ELMS debut, will receive 30kg of success ballast for the 4 Hours of Monza, which is 15kg for winning the race (Table A) and 15kg for leading the championship (Table C). Because Ricard was the season opener, its weight Table B is 0kg.

The #83 Kessel Racing Ferrari will have 20kg of ballast for the 4 Hours of Monza (10kg + 10kg) and the #77 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche will have 10kg (5kg + 5kg) for this weekend.

David Hauser joins the Le Mans Cup field

After Gary Hauser partnerd Charlie Martin in the first Le Mans Cup race of the season at Paul Ricard, the older Hauser brother, David, will race with Martin this weekend. He will look to make a seamless transition into the Racing Experience team, which finished fourth with its Norma in its series debut in France.

Monza is new to David, who is famous for his hill climb antics in a GP2 Dallara, so is the Norma, but he has tested the car before this week.

“The Norma LMP3 M30 felt great when testing at Paul Ricard and Spa-Francorchamps,” he said. “I haven’t done many laps in this car yet, but the first feeling is good. I have a lot of experience in our previous Ligier LMP3 car and so I feel confident I will be able to get up to speed quickly. The car seems balanced and I love the details that Norma have brought to the car. I definitely prefer the power steering compared to our previous car too.

“My aim is to do the best possible performance for the whole team. Charlie and Gary had a great race in Paul Ricard, finishing in fourth position, and I want to do my best to build on this great start.”

Cool Racing onboard

The ELMS YouTube channel has released a great bit of onboard footage from Wednesday testing from an unusual vantage point, the camera placed on the side of Cool Racing’s ORECA 07.

#88 Proton Competition Porsche Set To Miss The Race

The TBAs against the #88 Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR will not be filled for the Monza race.

Christian Ried told DSC this morning that he had been unable to fill the seats for round 2 of the ELMS but would run the car in Free Practice with Thomas Preining the only nominated driver.

“We tried to put something together but now it is too late. It’s a shame but I’m not too unhappy, the car will be fully fresh for Le Mans.”

In a further change to earlier plans the cars have been reliveried, the Felebrmayr livery on the #88 at Paul Ricard looks set to be a one-off – for now at least.
